Shuggie Otis - Inspiration Information

This past summer we were hanging out at Stinson Beach with some friends and met a 12-year-old boy who was into music. I asked him who he liked to listen to and the first thing he said was "Shuggie Otis". That's my kinda kid.

This record was recorded in the early 70's as sort of a home solo experiment and recently re-released by David Byrne. Shuggie is an incredible guitarist who has recorded with the likes of Frank Zappa (he's credited w/ the bass on Peaches En Regalia) and Mos Def. Inspiration Information is smart, crafty, funky, and soulful and we are always happy when it shows up on the ipod... but it sounds even better on vinyl!! It just has THAT sound. That sound? Think of same era Stevie Wonder w/ less gloss and more edge. If you just want to test out one track, try "Freedom Flight" or "Sparkle City".
